In "The Sonnet-Ballad", what does "empty heart-cup" mean?

I have to answer a question relating to the phrase “cannot guess what [she] can use an empty heart-cup for.” in "The Sonnet-Ballad" by Gwendolyn Brooks, but I don't know what "empty heart-cup" even means. Please help!
