Why do Americans care about the royals?

I can understand why Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders, etc. care. Because they are in the commonwealth. But America fought (and won) a war to distance themselves from the British monarchy. So why is there so much interest from Americans, I thought most Americans would hate the Royal family because of the war and because of the general history. Even if some Americans ancestors were British they obviously didn't like the monarchy because they fled to the US.
