Should I be able to get a good picture using a widescreen dell or samsung monitor with a mac mini?

i just bought a mac mini (with GMA 950 graphics card) - the mac mini being sold until a few months ago. When I hooked it up to my widescreen samsung syncmaster, which normally has good graphics when i run my PC on it, the colors didn't look good at all. There were clearly many colors missing. I tried playing with color settings on both my monitor and the system preferences on the mac mini, but neither helped alot. Is it possible i have a bad graphics card? I mean, I should be able to at least get a pretty good picture on a 22 inch monitor with the mac mini right (on a GMA 950 graphics card). I saw the mac mini's with huge displays at the apple store last year (same model i have) and it looked great. I know the apple cinema displays are better but not that much better . . .
